The quiet rules.
Effective 18 July 2026
Using BUDDY means agreeing to these terms. We have kept them short and in plain language, because terms you can actually read are the only kind worth writing.
What BUDDY is — and isn’t
BUDDY is a journaling app: a place to write, be heard, and notice your own patterns. It is not therapy, medical care, or a mental-health service, and it does not diagnose, treat, or replace professional help. If you are in crisis or carrying something heavy, please reach out to a qualified professional or a local helpline.
Your words are yours
Everything you put into BUDDY — entries, photos, voice notes, check-ins — belongs to you. We claim no ownership of it. You give us only the narrow permission needed to store it, encrypt it, sync it between your devices, and show it back to you. That permission ends when you delete your content or your account.
Your account
You need to be at least 16 to use BUDDY. You sign in with Apple or Google, and you are responsible for keeping your device and passcode to yourself — the lock only works if you keep the key.
Subscription
BUDDY is free to start. Some features require a subscription, billed through the App Store. Prices are shown before you pay, and you can cancel any time in your store account settings — cancelling stops future charges and your subscription runs to the end of the period you paid for. We don’t do dark patterns, and we don’t chase.
Fair use
Please don’t misuse BUDDY — that means no breaking in, probing, or disrupting the service, no using it to harm others, and no trying to reverse-engineer other people’s data (there is nothing to find; it is encrypted). We may suspend accounts that put other users or the service at risk.
Leaving
You can stop using BUDDY and delete your account at any time, from inside the app. Your data goes with you, as described in our privacy policy.
The unavoidable part
BUDDY is provided “as is.” We work hard to keep it available and your data safe, but we can’t promise the service will always be uninterrupted or error-free, and to the extent the law allows, our liability is limited to what you have paid us in the past twelve months. Nothing in these terms limits rights that your local law says can’t be limited.
Changes and contact
If these terms change in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect. Questions are welcome at hello@buddy.app.
